The Training that is taking place is being done with an electric collar which the dog is wearing and the trainer has a remote to control the shocks. The exercise being taught is called a forced retrieve, where the dog is shocked when he does not accept the object into his mouth or when he drops the object and he soon learns that the only way to avoid the shock it to keep hold of the item until he is asked to drop it.

Comment 1:

Anyone who has seen videos of people being tortured, or read accounts of the cruelty inflicted on women, children or people from different ethnic background will immediately recognise the scenario. The poor unfortunate victim is given no alternatives, and is kept in a state of stress, lack of control, fear and helplessness. The pressure is maintained for a long period of time to further reduce the body's ability to recover and cope.

The dog's extreme resistance to anything that man attempted was tragic and an indictment of all thinking behind using this form of device for training.

The dog could have been trained to retrieve anything willingly, freely, actively and reliably using positive behavioural shaping methods in a week. It is not rocket science. Nervous dogs can be reshaped to be more calm, confident and self-controlled, so that they don't need muzzles.

The trainer's arrogant and overbearing manner is the same posture we see in torturers, and is entirely based on the piece of electric shock equipment he has in his hand - not on any skill, understanding, emphathy or talent.

Humans do not have the right to do this to animals, just because they can get away with it. It is a travesty to call this training, and a tragedy that it is on the net for people to see and possibly accept as normal or reasonable.

This video is anti-breed banning; however the other side of the coin can be seen by looking at the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 in the UK & Wales, in which a number of breeds of dog were banned as being kept as pets due to a number of fatal & near fatal incidents.

Can you or should you ban a whole breed because a number of dogs belonging to that breed are seen as dangerous or should more be done to stop bad breeding and irresponsible ownership?

Just because people train their pet differently from you, even if they use methods that you feel are not ‘correct’ it does not mean that they don’t love dogs as much or more than yourself!!!
